I love it when our Christian preachers go on about Old Testament laws, rules, and regulations.
The Ten Commandments and the Jewish Bible (Old Testament) were the laws (ordinances) designed to act as the guardian of living a good life.
Christ gave us two new commandments. In Matthew, below, it is stated that all the Law and the Prophets depend on these two laws. John states that “his commands are not burdensome.” Galatians states that “the law was our guardian until Christ came…now that this faith has come, we are no longer under a guardian.” Ephesians states ‘broken down the dividing wall of hostility by abolishing the law of commandments expressed in ordinances.’
Do these verses mean that we should live by Christ’s Two Commandments as Christians or follow the Old Testament laws? I interpret them to mean that Christ abolished the old law, that we should live by the new.
Matthew 22:27-40 -“
You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. 38 This is the great and first commandment. 39 And ha second is like it: iYou shall love your neighbor as yourself. 40 jOn these two commandments depend kall the Law and the Prophets.”
1 John 5:3-4 -
In fact, this is love for God: to keep his commands. And his commands are not burdensome, 4 for everyone born of God overcomes the world.
Galatians 3:23-25
23 Before the coming of this faith,[j] we were held in custody under the law, locked up until the faith that was to come would be revealed. 24 So the law was our guardian until Christ came that we might be justified by faith. 25 Now that this faith has come, we are no longer under a guardian.
Ephesians 2:14-16
For he himself is our peace, who has made us both one and has broken down in his flesh the dividing wall of hostility 15 by abolishing the law of commandments expressed in ordinances, that he might create in himself one new man in place of the two, so making peace, 16 and might reconcile us both to God in one body through the cross, thereby killing the hostility.
